POLTAVA

ENABLE DHC

Overview: Poltava is located in central Ukraine. The region stands out as one of Ukraine’s most agriculturally advanced areas, complemented by significant natural gas production capacities. The city’s district heating is an extensive one, reaching almost all buildings in the city.

Current DH system:  Poltava has more than 272km of pipelines deployed. Despite the extensive grid, the city faces a twofold challenge. Most of the energy comes from natural gas, while the ageing system, more than 30 years old, hinders its efficiency. The district heating infrastructure in the city of Poltava currently serves approximately 95% of buildings, a total of 3374 structures.

Annually, the total thermal energy generated by the existing infrastructure reaches approximately 756 GWh. Despite the extensive generation capacity, the current configuration of the heat source system does not include thermal energy storage facilities

What work will ENABLE DHC do?: The project will investigate ways of integrating renewable energy sources and waste heat into the network while also drawing investment plans that will facilitate the renovation of the grid and the increase of its efficiency
